Saying goodbye to Lightning wasn’t easy. He carried us through countless adventures and created memories we’ll treasure forever. He earned a permanent parking spot in our hearts, and we still miss him dearly.
But every road trip eventually reaches its destination, and sometimes you have to park one chapter before you can start another.
So, Lightning, thanks for the memories. You’ll always have a place in our story.
Our New Friend Romin
Lightning and Ka-Ciao are history! There’s a new car in the family, and he already plans to become the star of the show.
Meet Romin, our 2020 Subaru Ascent—and the newest member of our retirement travel team.
We bought Romin for one very important purpose: to haul our retired selves all over this great country in search of beautiful scenery, interesting places, good food, and whatever trouble we can find along the way. After all, retirement should feel like an adventure, right?
We did our homework before choosing our new travel companion. We researched SUVs until our eyes crossed, and in the end, Subaru won the race. Safety? Check. Gas mileage? Check. Vehicle weight? Check. Comfort? Absolutely. Price? Now we’re talking! Romin crossed the finish line with the best overall combination—and he didn’t make us sell a kidney to pay for him.
Romin’s Inaugural Trip
Romin’s first official assignment took us to White Sands National Park in New Mexico, and this rookie performed like a seasoned road warrior. He ate up the miles, handled every road without complaint, and got us safely to one spectacular destination after another. Clearly, he passed his audition.
Fulfilling the Bucket List with Romin
Our next big adventure takes us to Yosemite in May, followed by a cross-country road trip this summer. We have a feeling Romin will see more of America than some Americans do—and judging by his first trip, he’s perfectly happy about that.
And Romin? Buckle up, buddy. Retirement has officially entered the fast lane. The open road is calling, and we’ve got a whole lot of America to explore!
